OVER ONE MILLION POUNDS DONATED BY WELSH VOLUNTEERS TO CANCER RESEARCH IN WALES

The Fund has 11 voluntary committees in North and Mid Wales and funds pioneering research into the causes of cancer in North West Cancer Research Fund Institute.
The 11 voluntary committees are in:� Aberdovey, Bangor, Harlech, Holywell, Llandudno, Llanfairfechan & Aber, Machynlleth, Mold, Prestatyn, Ruthin and Tywyn.
The lifeblood of North West Cancer Research Fund is its volunteers who are responsible for raising the money.� Many have been working unpaid for the charity for decades and most have been touched by cancer themselves.
John Lewys-Lloyd, Chairman of North West Cancer Research Fund, said, 'I am full of admiration for the work of our fund raisers in Wales.� One million pounds is a staggering amount of money to raise and is even more impressive given that it is raised by volunteers.� It is only their efforts which make the research possible; research which takes place in Wales, which is paid for by Welsh people and which benefits the people of Wales.� One of the research strategies at North West Cancer Research Fund Institute is to target those cancers which are especially prevalent in Wales, for example, colon cancer.'
North West Cancer Research Fund Institute was created in 2004 with a donation of �432,000 from the charity.� It is a dedicated centre of research excellence in Wales with a mission to carry out world class research into the fundamental causes of tumour development.� Dr Caspari, the Institute's Director, is keen that people should have the opportunity to visit the Institute and free public tours are organized periodically.� For further information please call Anna Hardman on 0151 236 6605.
North West Cancer Research Fund is an independent regional cancer research charity.� An average of nearly 90p in every � raised is consistently spent directly on cancer research.
