AWARD FOR WALLASEY WOMEN'S 75 YEARS OF CHARITY WORK

Three well known Wallasey women have notched up 75 years of charity work to help North West Cancer Research Fund. ��Iris Rodgett, Kay Windsor and June Carlisle all of Wallasey have each contributed 25 years work for the charity.�
The ladies were given their awards at North West Cancer Research Fund�s recent Annual General Meeting which was held last month in Liverpool�s Medical Institution.� The three women have all served as members of the charity�s Wallasey committee for a period totalling three quarters of a century.� Iris Rodgett and Kay Windsor are pictured receiving their awards with the charity�s life president Colonel Graeme Bryson.� Unfortunately June Carlisle could not attend the event and her award was received by Iris and Kay on her behalf.�
Kay Windsor of long established Wallasean motor dealers Windsor�s was delighted to win the award.� She said: �Although I didn�t initially have any personal reasons for joining North West Cancer Research Fund, I felt that helping such a good cause would be a worthwhile use of my time.� Since her initial involvement 25 years ago Kay has had some personal reasons to continue with her work for the cancer charity and said �It is so important to pursue pioneering research projects such as the ones funded by North West Cancer Research Fund as there are so many different forms of cancer to be tackled.��
There is also a social side to their charity work with both women admitting that the charity has made them firm friends with many of their fellow volunteers. �Iris says: �The charity offers a pleasant network of friends; everyone gets on very well and is a constant source of support to each other.�
North West Cancer Research Fund was founded in 1948 and has 42 committees in total with 5 located on the Wirral in Caldy, Heswall, Hoylake, Neston and Wallasey. Each committee is run by local volunteers such as Iris and Kay, many of whom have been touched by cancer themselves.�
With the ongoing research carried out at The University of Liverpool, North West Cancer Research Fund enjoys strong links with the people of Merseyside. �Consistently spending nearly 90p in every � raised directly on research; quite simply, North West Cancer Research Fund is committed to finding the causes of cancer.���
For Iris, Kay and June there seems to be no plans to stop their fundraising efforts with the Wallasey committee holding a recent coffee morning raising almost �100 in just a few hours.� Both women are looking forward to their future years of service with North West Cancer Research Fund.
