CANCER RESEARCHERS READY FOR MARATHON FUNDRAISING EFFORT

A team of cancer researchers are in training for this years Anglesey marathon on September 24 to help raise vital cash for their research.
More than 18,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in Wales, giving an incidence rate that is significantly higher than average within the UK.� The NWCRF Institute was opened in 2004 at the University of Wales, Bangor, following a major financial donation from the North West Cancer research Fund charity.
Twenty-three scientists now work at the Deiniol Road centre which since opening has attracted more than �1m in research grants.� The NWCRF Institute is a centre for world class research, dedicated to finding the fundamental causes of cancer.� It is the only centre of its kind in North Wales.
Now at least half-a dozen workers, supported by family and friends, are to make their own fundraising contribution.� They have even splashed out on special T-shirts.
�Spectators will certainly know who we are running for,� said NWCRF Institute fundraising co-ordinator Dr Michael Cross �We want people to know that the money we raise will stay in the area and be spent locally�.� �We would also value people running and raising sponsorship for us.�� Anglesey Marathon organisers Menter Mon include the fund on a list of the event�s charities.
