WELSH VOLUNTEERS RAISE OVER ï¿½100,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH

ï¿½Volunteer fund raisers from Wales have raised ï¿½135,000 for cancer research in the last year.

The money was raised by volunteers from North West Cancer Research Fund which has 11 committees across North and Mid Wales.ï¿½ The money will be spent on research in North West Cancer Research Fund Institute in the University of Wales, Bangor.ï¿½ Throughout its 57 year history, an average of nearly 90p in every ï¿½ raised has consistently been spent directly on research

North West Cancer Research Fund is an independent regional cancer research charity.ï¿½ It has been funding pioneering cancer research in the University of Wales, Bangor for over 10 years.ï¿½ In 2004, it donated ï¿½432,000 to help to create North West Cancer Research Fund Institute based in the university.ï¿½ Itï¿½ was created as a dedicated centre of research excellence in Wales with a mission to carry out world class research into the fundamental causes of tumour development.

John Lewys-Lloyd, Chairman of North West Cancer Research Fund, said, 'For yet another year, our volunteers in Wales have done us proud.ï¿½ I believe that the amount raised is a record and is testimony to their hard work over the last 12 months.'

The North West Cancer Research Fund has committees in Aberdovey, Bangor, Harlech, Holywell, Llandudno, Llanfairfechan & Aber, Machynlleth, Mold, Prestatyn, Ruthin and Tywyn.
