WIRRAL COUPLE LEAVE FORTUNE TO LOCAL CANCER RESEARCH CHARITY

North West Cancer Research Fund has been left a legacy of over �100,000 by a Wirral couple.
David Williams was the Assistant General Secretary of the Fund for 12 years before he died from cancer on 15 March 2004.� Tragically, his widow, Penny, died suddenly on 2 April 2005.� They lived in Greasby.
The Fund has now been advised that Penny and David left the majority of their estate to the charity.� The legacy is expected to be in excess of �100,000.
John Lewys-Lloyd, Chairman of the Fund, said, 'This great generosity of Penny and David comes as no surprise.� David was a loyal and hard working member of staff for a long time and, more often than not, Penny would accompany him on his visits to fund raising events organized by our volunteers in local branches.'
'David had successfully overcome cancer prior to starting to work for us and I know that it was this personal experience which made him and Penny so dedicated in furthering the work of the Fund.� Legacy income is tremendously important to us, without it much less research would take place.'
North West Cancer Research Fund makes �750,000 available every year for fundamental research into the causes of cancer.� Virtually all of this money is raised through voluntary efforts and donations. �It is an independent regional charity and all the research takes place in the North West.
It has 40 committees across the region (including 5 in Wirral) all of which are run by volunteers, many of whom have been touched by cancer themselves.� Throughout its 57 year history, an average of nearly 90p in every � raised has consistently been spent directly on research
