TERRI DWYER WALKS FOR NORTH WEST CANCER RESEARCH FUND

Terri, former star of Hollyoaks and now co-presenter of the television chat show, Loose Women, lost both of her parents to cancer and many other family members have also suffered.� This has resulted in Terri having to undergo regular screening herself.� She is going to take part in a charity walk in Calderstones Park in aid of Liverpool based charity, North West Cancer Research Fund.
Terri will be joining a team walking 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) around the park on 20 July 2005.� It is part of a national walk - the Kellogg's Cornflakes Great Walk 2005 - from John O'Groats to Land's End aimed at raising money for charities.� The walk started in April and will end in September.
Terri said, 'The motto of the North West Cancer Research Fund is "help us to find the cause".� I'm trying to raise awareness and support for this charity because, without research, we will never find a cure for cancer and it's a disease which affects many people's lives very badly.� I hope that as many people as possible will sponsor the team.'
Terri's team is being sponsored by Abacus Care from Ormskirk and is called. 'Abacus Care 4 North West Cancer Research Fund.'� About a dozen staff from Abacus will be in the team together with a number of people from the charity.'
Team Leader from Abacus Care Nicola Green says �Everyone at Abacus Care is getting geared up for the walk, we all have a vested interest in cancer research and hope we can do our bit to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause�
Anne Jackson, marketing executive of North West Cancer Research Fund, said, 'It's wonderful to have someone like Terri involved with the walk.� She's not just a famous face but, because of her own terrible experience, she is someone who is totally committed to beating cancer.'�
Anne, who has recently lost her Father to cancer, will be one of the walkers.
North West Cancer Research Fund makes available �750,000 every year for fundamental research into the causes of cancer.� Virtually all of this money is raised through voluntary efforts and donations.� There are normally 30 research projects underway at any time with many taking place in The University of Liverpool.� Throughout its 57 year history, an average of nearly 90p in every � raised has consistently been spent directly on research.
