VOLUNTEERS CLOCK UP OVER A CENTURY FOR CANCER RESEARCH

Four Wirral ladies have received long service awards for their work for North West Cancer Research Fund.
Jean Benbow, Anne Halewood , Dorothy Perry and Sheila Gill from the Fund's Neston committee have, between them, been volunteers for well over a hundred years.� Jean has 40 years' service, Anne 35, Dorothy 30 and Sheila 25.
The ladies were presented with special awards at the Fund's annual general meeting.� The presentations were made by the Fund's Life President, Colonel Graeme Bryson.� The ladies have a little way to go, though, before they match Colonel Bryson's record who has been a volunteer for over 50 years.
North West Cancer Research Fund is an independent regional charity.� Several of its voluntary committees are in Wirral: Caldy, Hoylake, Heswall, Neston and Wallasey.� It makes available �750,000 every year for fundamental research into the causes of cancer and virtually all of this money is raised through voluntary efforts and donations.� Throughout its 57 year history, an average of nearly 90p in every � raised has consistently been spent directly on research.
