Dear Sir

WIRRAL COASTAL WALK

This annual event is taking place on 22 May 2005 and, through your newspaper, I should like to make a heartfelt plea to anyone intending to take part to consider raising money for North West Cancer Research Fund.

Sixteen years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and my immediate reaction was that I was going to die. I could not have been more wrong as, after I was treated, I made a full recovery and, as has been the case for many years, I lead a full and active life. I like to think of myself, and people like me who have been treated successfully for cancer, as proof that cancer research saves lives.

We are an independent regional charity and have 5 voluntary committees in Wirral. We give between 750,000 and 1 million every year to research and virtually all of this money is raised by voluntary efforts and donations. Throughout our 57 year history, an average of almost 90p in every raised has consistently been spent directly on research.

Sponsorship forms are available from Bebington CVS on 0151 643 7275 between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm from Monday to Friday. The full distance is 15 miles but walkers can do 5 or 10 miles if they wish.

Yours faithfully

Helen Dring
